The tops that come with outdoor playsets frequently will rot and fall apart from constant exposure to the elements. Replacing the top with a store bought one can be costly. Creating a top from canvas or vinyl is a simple cost effective way to replace a damaged playset top.
Remove the old canvas or vinyl top. Do not discard it yet.
Measure the old top if you still have it. If you don't still have the old canopy measure the playset frame where the top will go. Including the height and length of the bottom bar on top of the playset frame.outdoor play structures
Measure and cut your canvas or vinyl to the measurements taken. Make sure that the top will be tight and be able to wrap around the bottom bar.
Fold over twice the edge of the canvas and sew. Repeat on each edges. This will keep the edge from unraveling.
Sew one half of the Velcro to each end of the canvas or vinyl on the underside.
Measure and cut two sections of Velcro to the width of the canvas. Separate the Velcro.
Replace the needle in your sewing machine with a heavy duty needle. The needle will need to be at least a size 16.
Using your staple gun, staple the other half of the Velcro to the top of the bottom bars on the top frame. If you do not have a staple gun, you can glue the Velcro down.
Take your sewn canvas or vinyl to your playset. Start with the Velcro edge and attach it to the Velcro piece that is attached to the playset. Wrap the sewn canvas or vinyl around the bottom and pull over the top. Wrap around the bottom of the other side and attach to the second piece of playset attached Velcro. When the weather becomes cold or inclement you can now remove your top to extend the life of it.outdoor play structures
