As a result of ongoing advertising campaigns and public awareness for health and fitness, a growing number of parents are starting to urge their kids to play outside.
There is a massive obesity issue around the world, as well as worsening social problems and one of the reasons for this is because lazy parents are not encouraging their kids to get off the couch and get active playing outside.
Modern technology is developing at a rapid rate and whilst most of this is to our benefit, there are a select number of gadgets that are numbing our kid's brains, telling them it's OK to sit inside and restraining their mental and physical development. As they say - you are our parents and this is one fact of life that many tend to deny or overlook.
Playing outside has more benefits than most parents and their kids are aware of. Unlike computer games and televisions that consume our energy sources, playing outside is free. It also develops motivation, social interaction, self confidence, coordination and physical strength. Most importantly, playing outside and being active ensures greater health and fitness, which can heavily reduce society's social problems.
Advanced technology didn't exist 20 years ago, so there wasn't the temptation to neglect the outdoors and consume our time with mind-numbing gadgets. On the other side of the coin, the amount of outdoor equipment available for kids was extremely limited. However, the past few years has seen the average swing and slide at the park into full-blown, comprehensive confidence course-like playgrounds that are bundles of fun for kids, as well as parents.
As well as having endless options of equipment to play on, most playgrounds also come equipped with safety apparatus, such as padding and rubber matted surfaces. This not only cushions kid's falls and trips, but it also enables them to push their boundaries and really show off their skills. Parents can also sit back in confidence, knowing that the health and well-being of their kids is in good hands.
