When old man winter appears, an outdoor cat needs a thermal area to rest out of the wind, cold temperatures and snow. You can make a very inexpensive outdoor cathouse with household items in short time. You building materials include a Styrofoam cooler, duct tape, contact paper, straw and a few items from your garage or house.
-
Draw a circle for the cathouse door with a marker on a Styrofoam cooler's longest side about 2 inches from the bottom. Make the circle size only as large as you need for your cat to squeeze through the opening.
-
Cut the circle shape out of the Styrofoam with a sharp knife. Place duct tape all around the door opening with the center of the tape on the cut portion and one-half on the outside and the other half on the inside of the house.Commercial playground
-
Remove the cooler lid and measure the inside bottom. Cut a piece of contact paper the same size with scissors, peel the backing off and stick it to the floor.
-
Fill the cooler about half full of straw. Replace the cooler lid.
-
Insert a 1 1/2-inch long stainless steel screw into each corner of the container's lid and turn them clockwise with a screwdriver to tighten them.
-
Place your outdoor cathouse on two bricks so it does not touch the cold ground. Put the house under the shelter of a roof, near your house or in the garage to prevent wind blowing inside.Commercial playground
